I grew up in Denver, swimming competitively, and on my last day of swimming in college, I didn’t think I would ever set foot in the water again – and in fact, I didn’t for nearly a decade.
In the meantime, I went to law school and blew my student loan money (meant for housing and food) on a road bike where I found a brand new passion for riding as a member of Vanderbilt’s Cycling Team. I’m now an Intellectual Property and Tech Transactions attorney in Chicago.
My introduction to endurance event fundraising came about during this time as well: While I was in school, my mom battled leukemia and my best friend battled lymphoma. Each of them beat cancer (woo!) and when my mom signed up for a half marathon and my best friend signed up for an IRONMAN 70.3 with Team In Training, I became involved with the organization ever since – as a participant, mentor, and coach.
I also met my husband John, through Team In Training as we each participated in our first IRONMAN 70.3 Steelhead, together in 2010. Since then I’ve completed several more endurance events (including IRONMAN Wisconsin twice) and I always strive to fundraise and give back - the sport is so much more meaningful when making a difference!
I am delighted to be involved with Smile Train this year – it is an incredible organization and I look forward to helping other athletes achieve their goals (athletic and fundraising) all while bringing smiles worldwide!
