After graduating from Colorado College, I began working at Smile Train with Team EMPOWER. Although I came from a sports background in snowboard racing and ice hockey, I knew very little about endurance events. In April 2015, I had the opportunity to travel to London with our marathon team. I was so inspired as I watched our athletes achieve their fundraising and racing goals after months of hard work.
Upon returning to the states, I immediately signed up for the Chicago Marathon with Smile Train despite having never run more than 6 miles in my life. I can honestly say that crossing the finish line at the 2015 Chicago Marathon as a member of Team EMPOWER was one of the best moments of my life. Fundraising and racing as a member of Team EMPOWER gave me a whole new perspective and appreciation for what our athletes do. It was such an amazing feeling to represent Smile Train and to know that my race provided smiles for 22 children around the world.
Since then, I have run the London and New York City Marathons and it is my goal to run all the World Marathon Majors. After two and a half amazing years working at Smile Train, I am excited to step into a new role as an Alumni Ambassador. I look forward to continuing to support our team members as they race to provide life changing cleft surgeries.
