SMILE TRAIN AND CHARITY NAVIGATOR
Smile Train’s sustainable “teach a man to fish” business model helps to provide both free surgeries to children suffering from clefts and the necessary funding and training to empower local doctors to continue working on the ground in their own communities.
Since our business model relies heavily on donated services, the values of these services are not included on the IRS Form 990. As a result, to date Charity Navigator, a resource dedicated to evaluating charities, has been unable to rate Smile Train using their current methodology.
A lack of a rating does not indicate a positive or negative assessment by Charity Navigator.
-President and CEO of Charity Navigator, Michael Thatcher in a recent letter to Smile Train
Smile Train looks forward to the future when Charity Navigator has methodology in place to rate the organization and the positive impact its efforts have had on children with clefts across the globe.
