The annual Rotarian International Convention brings 25,000+ globally conscious and charitable Rotarians from around the world – all eager to find ways to make an impact in their local communities and abroad. It is a must-attend event for any nonprofit organisation.
Rotary chapters and their members have been some of Smile Train’s most dedicated supporters since our founding. The Evanston Lighthouse Chapter in Illinois, for example, has previously provided generous grants for additional training for our local surgeons in the Philippines and Mexico, and they are currently raising funds for a grant that will have a transformative and long-lasting impact on our programmes in Brazil.
So, when Smile Train’s Director of Development in Germany, Kerstin Diegel, learned that the 2019 International Convention would take place in Hamburg, she jumped at the chance to represent Smile Train. Kerstin said, “We’ve had a rich history of successful partnerships with Rotarians. The event taking place in Germany was an added opportunity for me talk to European Rotary members about the new local fundraising and educational opportunities for our region.”
One of the first visitors to the booth was the longstanding partner Longboat Key Club, from Florida, whose members had generously supported Smile Train’s cleft programmes in the Philippines and Brazil.
There were future Rotarians and Rotaract members (for young adults) who were interested in learning more about Smile Train.
Over the next five days, hundreds of Rotarians stopped by to visit Smile Train’s booth. Kerstin said, “It was great sharing stories of Smile Train’s impact around the world and brainstorming ways that local Rotary chapters could partner with us. I connected with so many passionate people and have already started follow-up discussions on how we can better work together.”
A special thanks to Rotary International for allowing us to participate in your amazing event and for your dedication to helping Smile Train provide forever smiles to children around the world.
