Meet the Woman Changing the Face of West Africa

5 September 2017 | Smile Train

After working in banking and social sector management for more than 16 years, Nkeiruka, affectionately referred to as NK, joined Smile Train as the Program Director of West and Central Africa in 2011.

NK recently visited Smile Train's global headquarters in New York City. During her visit, she sat down with Smile Train Western Region Development Director Justin McCarthy to talk about her background and share updates on the progress she has made in West and Central Africa.

Despite having to navigate many challenges working in the region, including civil wars, terrorist activities, shortage of trained craniofacial surgeons, and a lack of local health infrastructure, NK has helped the region expand from 5,000 cleft surgeries when she started to more than 25,000 today.

If you would like to help NK in her efforts to reach more children waiting for cleft surgery in West Africa, and millions more waiting around the world, donate today.
