Smile Train is deeply saddened by the loss of Dr Samuel Noordhoff, who passed away on 4th of December. Dr. Noordhoff was an international leader in the field of cleft lip and palate surgery and was a founding member of Smile Train’s Medical Advisory Board.
Dr Noordhoff played an integral role in setting the standards for safety and quality for every Smile Train partner and programme. He was also instrumental in the establishment of hospitals around the world and essential in the development of the world-class plastic surgery department and craniofacial team at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan. In 1989, Dr Noordhoff founded the Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation, a non-profit organisation to help patients who could not afford surgery in Asia.
“Dr Noordhoff was an incredible surgeon, but an even more amazing human being,” says Larry Hollier, Chairman of Smile Train’s Medical Advisory Board. “His caring and selfless qualities are ones that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”
“Dr Noordhoff was an inspiration to all, and a hero in the cleft community,” says Susannah Schaefer, Smile Train CEO. “We are so grateful to have been able to work with him. He will truly be missed.”
Dr Noordhoff led a life dedicated to serving people and his medical expertise has transformed the lives of thousands of patients. We are honoured to have known him and we will miss him dearly.
