Smile Train’s Medical Advisory Boards comprise the best and the brightest cleft experts in plastic surgery, maxillofacial surgery, anesthesia, and comprehensive cleft care from leading academic and medical institutions throughout the world. Smile Train relies on these regional advisory groups to help ensure that all our programs offer safe, high-quality cleft treatment for the children we serve. We highlight just a few of our dedicated board members below who help us raise cleft standards globally.

Dr Rebecca Jacob
Indian Medical Advisory Council
Dr Rebecca Jacob retired as a professor in the Department of Anaesthesia at the Christian Medical College Hospital, Vellore in 2008. She has been associated with Smile Train India since 2009. Her compassion for children born with clefts and dedication in ensuring that only safe, quality surgeries are provided to them makes her a woman who inspires smiles across the country.
Dr Jacob says of her work on the Indian Medical Advisory Board, “With 170 partner hospitals in India, Smile Train is very well placed to give the best care for children with clefts and to raise the standards and protocols towards safe anaesthesia and surgery for children. It gives me great pleasure to work with Smile Train, because I feel that what I’m doing is both good for the children and good for myself. Giving a child a smile is giving them power — power to change their life, to chase dreams, and to be happy inside and out.”
