Ms Melody Zhao lives and works in London as the founder of the luxury brand consulting firm the Fashion Bund. This year, Melody was tasked with raising funds and awareness for Smile Train in her capacity as a Debutant Ambassador for the Queen Charlotte’s Ball.
Melody learned that Smile Train has supported 360,000+ free, high-quality cleft repair surgeries in her home country of China and 1,500,000+ around the world. It didn’t seem fair to her that many children live with untreated clefts because their parents are unable to afford cleft treatment, so she decided to do something special to help.
Melody asked jewellery collector, designer and fellow fashionista Ms Kelsey Hong to help her create a jewellery fundraising event in Shanghai. Kelsey gladly agreed. The highlight of the event would be a newly designed jewellery series they called Smile Symphony. The two collaborated for weeks to create an original bracelet, necklace and earrings set.
In July, Melody and Kelsey premiered the Smile Symphony set at the Yifeng Galleria in Shanghai.
In front of a packed room of attendees, Melody and Kelsey shared what inspired their creation of Smile Symphony. "The series represents love, health, and happiness for all children born with clefts," Melody said.
The event was a smashing success and raised £16,650. Melody said, "It is amazing that we were able to have such an impact in such a short time. We hope to help even more children and their families in the future."
Smile Train’s Manager of Community and Events Fundraising UK, Jon Roberts, shared, "Melody and Kelsey’s creativity and talent helped to create one of the most successful fundraising events in memory. Everyone at Smile Train is incredibly thankful for their hard work – their efforts are going to help a lot of children."
